Black History Unit: Day 3...INVENTIONS!!!

Ahhh. Invention day was a fun day. We learned about some inventors who made lots cool things we still use today!

After learning about the African Americans who invented hair products, potato chips, and the SUPER SOAKER...we decided that we'd try our hand at engineering an invention.

I taught them the process of making an invention, and showed them what a patent was. I told them they'd even get to apply for a patent if they made their invention!

Materials? Yup.

Sketches...done.

Making a sketch a reality...this took quite a bit of scientific thinking!

Now for a few awesome inventions...
She invented a finish line for when her dolls race at home!

He invented a phone and named it "Silly Cell"

He invented a bridge that he could use in our blocks center! Darling.

Applying for a "US Patent" ;) If her application is approved...she'll be a patented inventor! Yeah!

Patented Inventor? Check.

He invented a pointer (because kids are OBSESSED with pointers in my room...anyone else?) to read our big books with. It was named "Super Pointer."

I  loved this day. It was wonderful to see their eyes light up when they saw the cool things that were invented by African Americans.
