Hey Workshop Teachers! How's It Goin?

I have a few things to say.
1. Where has my blogging mojo gone? I feel so...small and incompetent these days. I have no creative juices flowing to create units or activities and it's making me sad. I miss it! It's SUPER difficult for me to create for a few specific reasons:
* My 1/2 KG schedule leaves so little time to do things that are thematic in my day- so we've condensed it to one day a week and we go all out and have a blast with some thematic activities. It does the trick at school, but I miss how I got to plan out mini units that could last a week last year.

* The work we have been doing at my school leaves so little to be created. Let me explain. We're busy writing units of study for reading, writing, and even math. It's one of those things where...I've been SO busy launching workshops and making sure these kiddos have reading and writing identities- that we don't really "produce" a whole lot. There is time built in for fine motor and such- but again, with half the time and such precious seeds to be planted...I can't justify a lot of what I want to do. I feel a little sad- BUT I know the work we're doing is clearly more beneficial.
I guess I'd love some tips from my 1/2 day KG friends. Do any of you implement readers, writers, math, and/or choice workshop?

PLEASE. HELP.

and I miss everyone. :)

oh! and check this out....it keeps me happy these days!

  3. I hear you! We are doing workshop model for literacy and math and I really do believe that it is the best way to teach. BUT, there are days when I just want the kids to experience the fun of making something or doing something together that doesn't quite fit the workshop model. In fact, I think those experiences help build the classroom community that is essential to a successful workshop. This is our second year and we are finding the space now. I know you will too. Good luck!

  4. I totally hear you! I'm working on an October unit and I literally sat in front of my computer all weekend and couldn't come up with anything! WHAT THE HECK?! We have so many requirements to meet at our school with Daily 5, minutes/subject, more science lab time, etc. that I can't find time to do the fun stuff that I feel kids REALLY learn from. We'll figure it out!
